1). Walk in the shade where possible
2) Stay hydrated - carry water on the walk so you can drink frequently.
3) Carry a salty snack (or sports drink) to replace salts you lose through sweating.
4) Wear light colour, loose, lightweight clothing that doesn't absorb sunlight.
5) Wear a hat with a brim or flaps to cover your neck. An umbrella will provide good shade.
6) Wear sunscreen and carry a small amount to reapply during the walk.
7) Wear sunglasses.
8) Splashing your face and neck wih cool water can help you cool down. You can soak your hat in water to help keep it cool.
9) If you wear sweat bands on your wrists soak them in cool water.
10) Slow down, - especially going up hills.
11) Monitor yourself and others for signs of heat sickness. If you become dizzy, nauseated, have dry skin or chills, - STOP and drink water or sports drink.
